Ingredients

Between the fresh green parsley, red pepper flakes, lemon zest and drizzle of olive oil, each of the toppings adds its own special layer of flavor, and color and makes this (otherwise super simple) dip look stunning and holiday-worthy.

  • Feta Cheese – start with a good quality block of Feta Cheese and drain well.
  • Cream Cheese – use half a block of full-fat, cold cream cheese
  • Sour cream– for a richer dip, use regular full-fat sour cream which will also create a thicker dip. You can substitute with whole milk plain Greek yogurt.
  • Extra virgin olive oil – add the oil to the dip to add flavor and richness and also generously drizzle over the top with oil before serving. Using high-quality olive oil will make the dip taste better.
  • Lemon juice – zest the lemon before juicing it. The zest makes a wonderful garnish.
  • Garlic – one clove of garlic adds a nice bite and layer of flavor to the dip. Don’t overdo it. Even for a garlic lover, one clove is plenty.
  • Garnishes: Parsley, crushed red pepper flakes, oil, and black pepper make excellent tasty toppings.

How to Make Feta Dip

  1. Zest – remove the zest from your lemon before juicing, cover, and set it aside for garnish.
  2. In a food processor – combine all of your dip ingredients: feta, cream cheese, sour cream, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and salt. Process until smooth, about 4 minutes, scraping down the bowl as needed.
  3. Plate – spread your dip into a shallow bowl and swirl the top to create grooves.
  4. Garnish – drizzle with more olive oil and sprinkle the top with red pepper flakes, parsley, lemon zest, and black pepper.
  5. Serve with chips, crackers or veggies for dipping.

Pro Tip: If a thicker dip is preferred, you can cover and refrigerate for the ingredients to thicken up a bit, just be sure to wait before topping with olive oil since the oil can solidify in the fridge.

Common Questions

What is the best feta for feta dip?

Use high-quality feta cheese to create a tastier dip. We prefer 100% sheep’s milk feta cheese and enjoy the organic feta blocks sold at Costco.

Can I substitute crumbled feta?

Since crumbled feta can contain added ingredients to prevent caking, we recommend using a block of feta.

Can I use low-fat cream cheese or sour cream?

For a thicker and richer-flavored dip, we highly recommend using full-fat or whole-milk sour cream and cream cheese.

Can I make feta dip in a blender?

You can use a high-powered blender, but you may need to scrape it down more often if the blender gets stuck.

Make-Ahead

Even though this dip is super easy, it’s always great to have a make-ahead option, especially when planning a party or gathering. This whipped feta dip keeps really well.

  • To Refrigerate: Add to your serving bowl, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
  • Freezing: We do not recommend freezing feta dip since it is dairy-based and can separate.
  • To Serve: Serve right out of the refrigerator and garnish with olive oil and toppings just before serving.

  • In the bowl of a food processor fitted with a chopping blade, combine all of the feta dip ingredients. Blend on high speed for 3-4 minutes, or until completely smooth, scraping down the bowl halfway.
  • Transfer to a shallow serving bowl and swirl the top with a spoon to create grooves. Drizzle all over with extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle on crushed red pepper flakes, parsley, lemon zest and freshly cracked black pepper.

  • Serve right away with Pita Chips or vegetables for dipping, or cover and refrigerate.*

Make-Ahead Tip: You can make this dip up to 3 days ahead. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. It is best to add the toppings just before serving since the olive oil topping can harden in the refrigerator.
