Chocolate chip cookies are a serious business around here. We all have our favorite recipes, but that doesn’t mean we don’t take trying new ones very seriously.

After all, you’ve gotta try as many recipes as you can for science, right?

One thing I’ve learned is that everyone likes their chocolate chip cookies a little different. Some are all about the big, chewy cookies, while others are all about a soft and cakey texture.

And we can’t forget variations on the classic!

Luckily for you, I’ve got plenty of chocolate chip cookie recipes right here on MBA, perfect for satisfying any craving.

Making the best chocolate chip cookies

I’ve been baking cookies for long enough that I’ve picked up a few trips and tricks over the years. Here are some of my top tips for making the best cookies:

  • Measure correctly: Make sure you know how to measure flour correctly before you get started. This seemingly simple step can be the difference between the perfect cookies and cookies that are just okay.
  • Use good quality ingredients: You can use any vanilla and chocolate chips in your cookies. But if you want to take things to the next level, invest in some good vanilla extract and consider splurging on high-quality semisweet chocolate chips. (Ghirardelli are my favorite!)
  • Be patient: Don’t try to rush things when you cream butter and sugar together — this usually takes 3-5 minutes to do right. And if the recipe says to chill the dough in the fridge, do it! It can make a huge different in the flavor and texture of the cookies.
  • Use a cookie scoop: Use a cookie scoop to portion the cookie dough balls. This will make all of your cookies the same size so they bake more evenly.
  • Freeze the dough: Don’t be afraid to make extra dough and store it in the freezer for later! Check out my method for freezing cookie dough so I can grab as many cookies as I’d like, pop them onto a sheet pan, and have warm-from-the-oven cookies any time a craving strikes. (Note that you may need to add a couple minutes to the bake time when using frozen dough.)
